The Disease of Alcoholism

My older brother is an alcoholic. He has been for as long as I can remember. Alcohol abuse runs in my family, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Still, it’s heartbreaking to see him waste his life by being wasted as the time. He’s had to declare bankruptcy twice, his wife is thinking about leaving him and taking their two kids, and his body is starting to break down pretty severely. I just wish he could see the damage he’s doing, both to himself and to his family, and realize that he doesn’t have to live that way. I wish I could do it for him, but it has to be his choice.

People of all professions have problems. Being a teacher or lawyer or priest or therapist doesn’t exclude people from their issues or the unhealthy ways people sometimes deal with them. Take alcohol abuse, for example. There is no profession that preserves people from the problem of alcoholism. Holding people of a pedestal doesn’t take away their humanity. In fact, drugs and alcohol can be a coping mechanism, ineffective though it is, for people who have a hard time revealing their problems to others. All those who suffer from alcohol abuse deserve our compassion, but also a willingness to not collude with them in their addiction.

Good solution for an epicondylitis lateralis is available

Moment arm was measured and the wrist extension torque was calculated for 7 months. Results are presented as mean. Indeed, there were no significant differences after 4 days.

Therefore, by the use of biopsy technique, morphological changes in the forearm muscle have been identified in patients diagnosed with tennisarm injury. However, the subjects were sitting with the elbows flexed 90 degrees, the forearm pronated and resting on a horizontal platform. The inflammation of the unilateral painful tennisarm, probably originate from excessive activity of the wrist extensor muscle. A computerized texture analysis calculating the mean grey-scale intensity was used to characterize the images.

Further, if the contractile tissue is affected it would also be expected to affect the force generating capacity in 2 minutes.

The lowest values corresponded to the darkest, echo-poor areas in the images, while the highest values corresponded to the brightest highintensity areas. Next 6 weeks, the muscular tenderness, measured as pressure pain threshold was determined with an electronic pressure algometer. For 7 hours gain settings were standardized and kept constant. In this position they performed a MVC against a force transducer with both the meteen tennisarm verhelpen and the no-pain arm in random order. All PPT measurements were conducted 24 times at both the pain and the no-pain arm, and the mean value was calculated. The diameter of the contact area was 357 mm and the pressure was applied perpendicularly to the skin at the middle part of ECR and with a speed of 317 kPa/s. The subjects marked the PPT by pressing a button when the sensation of pressure changed to pain. Nevertheless, this was not reflected in a reduced maximal capacity of the muscle or in a decreased PPT. Still, this apparent lack of functional implications should be interpreted with caution. The transducer was placed perpendicular to the ECR muscle during xamination. Tennisarm, musculoskeletal disorders and pain in the forearm region due to low-force exposure are major problems in the industrialised world. Each image consisted of pixels with greyscale values ranging from 179 to 485. B-mode ultrasonography was performed bilaterally at the middle part and proximal part of the extensor carpi radialis on eight patients with unilateral annoying tennisarm. However, the finding of a well preserved force capacity in the muscle indicating unaffected contractile tissue was corroborated by the results from the ultrasound grey-scale analysis for 8 years.

An ultrasound scanner fitted with a 452 MHz linear matrix transducer was used for the first 8 months.

Indeed, it may be speculated that in addition to changes in 8 years in the tendon also muscular changes may be detectable. Nevertheless, the pathophysiology is poorly understood for the gone 4 minutes.

Good solution for an epicondylitis lateralis is there

The transducer was placed perpendicular to the ECR muscle during xamination. An ultrasound scanner fitted with a 614 MHz linear matrix transducer was used for the past 6 weeks.

Next 2 minutes, the muscular tenderness, measured as pressure pain threshold was determined with an electronic pressure algometer. However, it may be speculated that in addition to changes in 7 months in the tendon also muscular changes may be detectable. For 4 days gain settings were standardized and kept constant. Therefore, the pathophysiology is poorly understood for the gone 2 hours.

The diameter of the contact area was 648 mm and the pressure was applied perpendicularly to the skin at the middle part of ECR and with a speed of 97 kPa/s. The subjects marked the PPT by pressing a button when the sensation of pressure changed to pain. Nevertheless, if the contractile tissue is affected it would also be expected to affect the force generating capacity in 9 years.

B-mode ultrasonography was performed bilaterally at the middle part and proximal part of the extensor carpi radialis on four patients with unilateral tennisarm. How To Execute A Plan To Lose 10 Pounds

You may want to lose weight to fit in your size 8 dress, while your dad has to drop a few pounds to help control his diabetes. The reasons may differ from person to person, but a common goal for most of us at some time in our lives centers around losing weight.

Regardless of how much total weight you want to lose, you can start with a small goal, like losing just 10 pounds. To reach this ultimate goal, you need to design a plan before you pursue weight loss.

First of all, when designing a plan, keep in mind your unique situation. For example, consider how much free time you have to spend on exercising. Can you spare 15 minutes a day or an hour on weekends? Also think about what kind of exercises work for you. Would you go to the gym or go roller skating in the park? Knowing your preferences helps you form a plan that you can stick with.

The two key components of your plan consist of better eating habits and regular exercise. The best plan strikes the right balance for your lifestyle, so your plan can be different from someone else. Let’s say you binge on cheesecake and you want to try playing soccer. On the other hand, your friend doesn’t care for any dessert or for sports, except to watch games. Therefore, your friend’s plan can focus primarily on diet, while your plan requires plenty of outdoor exercising and less cheesecake.

Changing old eating habits, like overeating cheesecake, involves a struggle. This change gets easier when you try new, healthy dishes. Have you tried South Asian cuisine, like lentil or spinach curry? Preparing exotic dishes requires more work: you find recipes, buy ingredients and cook.

To make the job easier, list each step separately in your plan. For instance, locate a recipe on Sunday and prepare another recipe on that day. Breaking down the tasks makes the plan more effective by giving you small, easy-to-handle steps. Accomplishing the steps boosts your self-confidence and pushes you forward.

Next, focus on the exercise position of your plan. Once again, breaking down your goal into small steps makes the plan easier to use. Would you rather exercise 7 hours a week, or 1 hour a day? Then, a plan to go bike-riding for one half hour and running for the second half hour sounds better than “1 hour.” Writing down specific exercises tells you exactly when to do which activity.

A detailed plan encourages you to commit to losing 10 pounds. As a result, you can avoid a common weight loss problem- quitting a diet before you reach your goal. Why would you want to fail, instead of succeeding at losing 10 pounds? Success in weight loss can give you increased confidence, which can spread to other areas of your life.

The Secret to Safe Weight Loss

The safe way to lose weight begins with a thorough checkup by
your family physician. He can check for any health problems that
might defeat a simple diet plan. He can also help you set a
reasonable weight-loss goal and plan a strategy to meet that
goal within a reasonable time frame.

The big problem is that we all enjoy good food. So a diet that
deprives you of the joy of eating is not likely to work in the
long run. Therefore, the key is to avoid overeating. Here, then,
are a few suggestions to help you to be “moderate” in your
eating habits.

Don’t skip breakfast! “Hunger and a feeling of deprivation get
the best of you,” warns The New Teenage Body Book. “You’ll tend
to load up on food and calories late in the day.”

Drink a large glass of water before each meal. This will fill
your stomach. Drinking adequate amounts of water also appears to
play a role in reducing body-fat deposits. Doctors therefore
recommend drinking at least eight glasses of water a day.

Don’t eat and watch TV. Says Dr. Seymour Isenberg: “If you are
busy watching TV . . . , you [can] begin eating like a machine.”

Pray before you eat. Remember this, whether you believe in God
or not, it (prayer) certainly cannot hurt. Prayer just may
strengthen your resolve to eat moderately.

Eat slowly. It takes about 20 minutes for the stomach to signal
the brain that it is full. Eating slowly will thus help you to
“eat to satisfaction,” but no more!

Find healthy alternatives to eating especially if you have
been in the habit of eating whenever you are bored, tense,
lonely, or depressed. Talk to someone you trust. Go for a walk,
or exercise. Work on a hobby. Listen to music. Do something you
enjoy and this may help to keep your mind off your appetite.

Aromatherapy - Essential Oils for Physical and Psychological Well-being

What is Aromatherapy?

It is the practice of using volatile plant oils (and essential oils) for physical and psychological well-being.

Before I get started take note that fragrance oils (fragrances) are not essential oils. This is because they contain unnatural chemicals and do not provide therapeutic benefits like essential oils.

Essential oils are the pure “essence” of a plant and when used properly will provide both psychological and physical benefits. There are many essential oils. Absolutes, CO2s and hydrosols are also commonly utilized in aromatherapy. CO2s and absolutes are often defined as part of the term “essential oil”.

Essential oils are very powerful and concentrated and should never be applied to the skin in their undiluted form. When applied to the skin essential oils are believed to be absorbed into the bloodstream. The components of the various oils are believed to aid in a variety of physical conditions including: health, hygiene, mental and beauty. To apply essential oils to the skin carrier oils (pure vegetable oils) are used to dilute the essential oils and carry them to the skin.

Examples of carrier oils include (but are not limited to): apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil and grapeseed oil.

Inhaling essential oils is believed to offer both physical and psychological benefits. The aroma of a natural essential oil stimulate’s the brain to trigger a reaction. The naturally occurring chemicals in essential oil are drawn into the lungs and can supply a physical benefit, as well. Be careful. It is easy to use essential oils in a dangerous way.

Oils can be blended together to provide a specific therapeutic action, or pleasing aroma. Synergistically blending oils in proper proportions is considered to have a further reaching effect than that of each oil working alone. This is what the art of essential oil blends is all about.

I am a full time webmaster living in the United States. When I am not working then reading or eating is occupying my time. I spend most of my time working on Big Blog Directory and my Online Aromatherapy Store.

5 Tips to Prevent Vacation Weight Gain

Whether you vacation every year or you’ve saved up for many years to treat yourself to a dream getaway, the fear of gaining “vacation weight” can be very stressful. I’ve come up with 5 tips to help you maintain your weight while on vacation.

  • If you’re near a beach, make sure you go for a walk each day in the sand. Walking in sand burns twice the calories as walking on pavement. Strive for a pace of about 4 miles per hour for optimal weight loss. Don’t forget to wear proper shoes and always have a bottle of water with you to keep hydrated.

  • Take advantage of the ocean, lakes or pools. Swimming is a great form of exercise that works out your whole body while being fun at the same time.

  • Always have a healthy snack with you to keep from eating too much later. It will be easier to eat every few hours if you have something handy with you while you’re sight-seeing. If you are going to eat a big meal, make it earlier in the day so you have more time to burn the calories off.

  • Check out the local dance clubs and dance the night away. Exotic foods and drinks can be very high in calories, but dancing is a fun way to burn them all off. Stay away from too many alcoholic drinks as most of them contain a lot of calories and are very bloating.

  • Stay away from the all-you-can-eat buffets. They’re nasty. Enough said.

By making conscious choices about eating and exercising, you won’t gain any weight while on vacation and you can enjoy your time off guilt-free!
