Take the Plunge, Buy a Push Bike for the New Year
Bicycling is a great method to improve your aerobic capacity, save fuel costs, while helping in keeping the environment unpolluted. Bicycling does not impact your joints in ways that running and working out in the gym can. It’s also pragmatic as one is able to keep fit by biking to work, or doing the shopping, so you don’t have to to put time aside for exercise as almost all other sorts of work out enforce on your schedule.
So what type of bicycle to buy? A bike that’s comfy for you while sitting in the saddle, and has a good number of gears to enable you to tackle slopes with comparative comfort - after all, we don’t all live in Cambridge! You should be able to pick up your cycle with relative ease as you will find yourself needing to do so occasionally, e.g over a low hurdle. Claud Butler mountain bikes are a good range of bikes to start looking at.
In addition, make sure you have the appropriate accessories for your cycle : a pump, front and back light, mudguards, reflector lights, reflective jacket, helmet and strong lock. These will aid you in keeping safe in bad light, and the bicycle secure from robbery. Make sure you lockup your bicycle in a moderately open location.
Last of all, it’s a smart move to invest some time into learning bike repairs. You don’t need to become an expert, but it’s useful if you can work out how to set your brake pads and brake cables as these frequently require fine-tuning following use. And ensure you keep the cycle well oiled and the tyres pumped up to a reasonable pressure to make biking less difficult. And of course, have good road sense - indicate with your arms when turning, and stay to the left-handside at all times.
