Top Tips To Ensure Pregnancy Health Both For The Mom And The Baby

Finally the pregnancy test kit showed that you are positively pregnant! You double-check by going to an ob-gyne and after undergoing a battery of tests the doctor confirmed that you really are pregnant.

Pregnancy can bring so much joy to a family. However, it can also pose innumerable health risks to the woman and to the baby, as well. Pregnancy is oftentimes one of the most awaited events in a woman’s life, especially if the woman has had a hard time trying to conceive. This means that when a woman is pregnant taking some precautions for health maintenance is downright required.

Here are some ways that a pregnant woman can employ to ensure the health of her baby and her self, too.

Eat well, conceive well.

It’s not true that you have to eat for two when pregnant. Eating more than the amount of food that is enough for one person will only cause the unwanted bloat. According to research, a pregnant woman will only need an extra 200 to 300 calories per day. And who knows, you might be already eating those extra calories. Eating healthy food will do the mother and the young life inside the mother just right. Of course, those extra calories should not come from junk food.

Supplement your wellness.

A pregnant mom should take a vitamin supplement that contains folic acid, better even before conception and during early pregnancy. Why folic acid? Because this micro-mineral, which is found mostly on green leafy vegies, when taken 400 mcg daily before and during early pregnancy, can reduce the risk of having babies born with neural tube defects.

Away with your vices.

It could have been awefully hard for you to quit on your smoking and frequent alcohol intake. Now is high time for you to rethink your actions. The nicotine from cigarettes and alcohol from the alcoholic beverages you consume can harm your growing baby. Usually, babies from mothers that have been smoking are born with low average birth weight, are prone to being born prematurely and may die from sudden infant death syndrome compared to babies of non-smoking moms. Caffeine is one substance that should be avoided, too. So, say ta-ta to your espressos and brewed fraps for your baby’s sake.

Precautions schmasions.

Even before pregnancy, it won’t hurt to get prenatal care. Making sure that you are immune to certain diseases that might affect your pregnancy counts a lot. An example of these diseases that a pregnant woman should be cautious of is rubella or German measles. Knowing your blood type will also help you prepare for any medical condition that you might encounter during pregnancy.

Exercise properly for you and your baby.

Exercising is one good way to help keep a pregnant woman fit, as well as her baby. However, there are certain conditions that ob-gyne’s need to approve before a pregnant woman can do any exercise. One of the important forms of exercise that can be done during pregnancy include those that help improve the muscles’ endurance. Stretching can help a lot, too. But all of these activities should be done with ample amount of precaution, of course.

It all boils down to the fact that if a woman would like to have a healthy pregnancy, she has to simply have a healthy lifestyle.

Simple Home Remedies for Gout Sufferers

Most people have heard of gout, but I suspect many don’t know what it really is. Simply put, gout is a disease caused by excessive levels of uric acid in the blood-stream (hyperuricemia). Not everyone who has high levels of this acid their blood develops gout disease, but it does seem most do. Specifically, gout occurs when uric-acid crystals form around body joints like knees, fingers, elbows and especially big toes - in fact, for the vast majority of gout sufferers, the first sign of the disease is big toe pain! After salt-like crystals form, inflammation, tenderness, and even a reddish rash may occur around affected joints.

The disease has been noted and documented since the time of Hippocrates. Traditionally, it’s been associated with exuberant living - eating and drinking well. And there is some indirect evidence to support this. For example, a long-term study noted that heavy consumers of meat and sea food were much more likely to develop gout. Additionally, significant alcohol consumption, especially in the form of beer, is also known to increase the risk of gout development.

Below are simple home remedies that may help to relieve pain and other symptoms linked to this sometimes debilitating disease. It’s unlikely they will all work for or apply to you, so it may be worth experimenting with different remedies to find the ones that personally help alleviate your symptoms.

* An old study supported by a recent one and significant amount of anecdotal stories suggest drinking cherry juice may help alleviate pain caused by uric-acid crystal formation.

* Soaking the affected joint or joints in warm water, or having a warm bath, may also help.

* Drinking plenty of water may help eliminate uric acid from the body.

* Cutting back on alcohol and meat (especially red) consumption should reduce the level of digestive purines from which uric acid is formed.

* If you’re overweight, slowly losing weight may also help.

* A recent study suggested taking vitamin C supplements may reduce the risk of gout attacks, so this is worth considering too.

These are just some simple remedies that may help curb gout attacks. Visit my website: http://www.gout-diet-tips.com/home_remedies_for_gout/ for many more ideas.

Pearl is June’s Birthstone

If you’re still young enough to remember your birthday, you
probably also remember the special birthstone assigned to it.
But at your age, we bet you don’t really know the SIGNIFICANCE
of your birthstone and what power the ancients felt would be
bestowed about you by wearing it. June’s Birthstone: Pearl
Birthstone Properties: Truth and beauty Alternative Birthstones:
Moonstone and Alexandrite Pearl is the official birthstone of
the month of June. It is also the accepted anniversary gemstone
for the 3rd and 30th years of marriage. Pearls have adorned
crowns, clothing, and temples, and were said to be a favorite of
Cleopatra, yet there are perfectly suited to young girls and are
a popular gift for first communion. Pearls come in a wide range
of colors from delicate rose white to black. The higher the
luster or “orient,” the more valuable the specimen. Greeks
believed that pearls were the hardened tears of joy that the
Love Goddess shook from her eyes as she was born from the sea.
In Arab legend, pearls were formed when oysters were lured from
the depths of the ocean by the beautiful moon and then swallowed
moonlit dewdrops. Ancient Chinese thought that these gems
originated from the brains of dragons. Whatever their origins,
pearls are magnificent! Round Pearl…and Her Shapely Sisters It’s
hard to believe that the coveted pearl comes naturally from one
of the humblest of life forms — the mollusk. Divers find
natural pearls in The Persian Gulf as well as in the waters off
Japan, the South Pacific Islands off northern Australia, and the
coasts of Panama, Venezuela, and California. Besides the popular
round shape most people associate with pearls, there are also
large hemispherical cultured pearls (called mabe), fresh water
pearls (elongated in interesting shapes and colors) and South
Sea cultured pearls (from Australia and Indonesian waters) that
grow to 10 mm and up! Gems of unsurpassed beauty and elegance,
pearls have been a passion and even an obsession of people
throughout the ages. They have been ground up and used in
cosmetics and as a medicine to treat heart and stomach
conditions. Some cultures swear by pearls as an aphrodisiac.
Only those with royal status once wore pearl jewelry, but
eventually these gems were seen among all classes of people.
They continue to be viewed as a mark of taste and refinement as
well as a symbol of purity, and they are often given to
celebrate a marriage or the birth of a child. Pearls are
nature’s perfect gift, suitable for all ages, and elegantly worn
with everything from jeans to an evening gown. Alternate
Birthstones Moonstone is a type of feldspar that earned its name
because of its resemblance to the iridescent sheen of the moon.
Varying in color from clear to blue-white or peach, it was
believed to endow the wearer with great spiritual understanding.
A gift of this stone is symbolic of health and longevity.
Alexandrite. A yellowish or brownish green in color, this
gemstone has the unique characteristic of changing color to a
red hue when exposed to a glowing light source, such as
candlelight. Because of this quality, it has been characterized
by poets as “an emerald by day, a ruby by night.”
