Wedding Player: Five Secrets Wedding Planners Must Recognize

Setting Up for live wedding music is just one of about a thousand chores facing couples and wedding planners. Between flowers, photographers, locales, gowns, showers, rings, video recording, and more, even a little and low-keyed wedding makes for a extraordinary amount of planning. It can be a nerve-wracking time because if even one of these areas falls through the cracks, your big day can end up being a serious letdown.

Here are five hints to engaging live wedding instrumentalists for your ceremony and reception:

1. Be sure you engage a dance band with a established track record of professionalism. Does the manager return your telephone calls promptly? Does the dance band have a website? Business cards? Other promotional materials? Or do you get the feeling you’re speaking to a guy rehearsing in his garage with his buddies? The way the band presents itself as you begin talking with them is a good indicator of how they’ll turn up (or not!) on your wedding day.

2. Promptness is essential. When you set an meeting to connect face to face or on the telephone, it’s like a mini-contract. If the band director is tardy to meet with you, it’s a cautionary sign that they don’t take their agreements seriously. If they can’t arrive on time in the preparation phase, what other agreements will they fail with you on your wedding day? This extends on to you, also - being timely is just one way you can live a life that exhibits that you respect your promises.

3. Make sure the dance band is easy-going rather than being a bunch of divas. By now you’ve likely heard a thousand Bridezilla stories, even if you’re not hard-to-please or unreasonable. Imagine engaging the equivalent in flakiness for your wedding band. The last thing you need on your wedding day is to have to wait on your musicians hand and foot, bringing them food and drink, having the thermostat changed for them, or catering to other hard to please wants. The greatest band for you is one that can take care of itself, one that’s easy to get along with, and one that does all it can to make sure your day is easy and fun for you.

4. Hire a wedding band that’s fun. Getting hitched is one of the deepest choices you’ll ever make. It’s important business. The music on your wedding day should be enjoyable and fun. You don’t want to see your invitees yawning, trancelike, and wishing the event was done with. You want them up, dancing, singing, and grinning. If you choose a live wedding music band well, your choice will do lots to make your wedding day memorable in a great way. This is the big day you’ve been looking for, and music is such a large part of it. Be sure you employ a dance band that makes the day idyllic - pleasurable for you and your invitees.

N Dubz Forced to Reconsider USA Tour Dates because of Rapper’s Previous Criminal Conviction

N-Dubz’s plans to break America have reportedly been stalled due to Dappy’s record. The 22-year-old Playing With Fire rapper, true name Dino Contostavlos, was handed a postponed jail term in 2008 following a drunken fight.

According to The Sun, the conviction is now causing issues for his group, that has caught the iris of a number of US label bosses. Bandmates Tulisa and Fazer are seemingly in the Big Apple this Saturday to meet LA Reid, the person behind Pink’s success. However Dappy, who was latterly at the center of a bullying scandal, has been made to remain in the United Kingdom. An insider asserted : “This has been a large reversal. Plenty of US label chiefs have been over to see the band and have been making major noises about breaking N-Dubz in America. “But Dappy has got a reasonably decorative past, which is causing issues with the visa. He’s gutted but he’s assured it can all be sorted.” a bunch of top immigration barristers has been employed to guarantee the group’s US dreams aren’t dashed.

The ‘Playing With Fire’ threesome are meant to be flying out to the States to chat with record label bosses, who want to sign them.

But The Sun claims that Dappy is fighting to be granted a visa because he’s got a record - in 2008 he had a suspended jail term, following a ‘drunken squabble’. We’ll show off our dynamic as a three.”.

Background Music Affects the Mood and the Buying Behaviour

Music is magical. Whether it is fast or slow, loud or soft, haunting or uplifting, music makes our world a richer place. Some people dance to it, some write, play or sing it, and others just listen. Music’s power is that it touches everyone in different ways. Music can alleviate pain caused by exercise, making working out more pleasurable. “Music is integral to exercise,” explains the head of London’s Gymbox chain, Richard Hilton. “We even have live DJs. We’ve never measured the effect scientifically, but it definitely creates an uplifting mood that people love. A recent study was conducted in a restaurant in order to know wether background music affects the buying behaviour of the customers. The study results that the sort of music you play does affect people’s mood. It is quite amazing how much it sets and creates an atmosphere in restaurants. Sometimes you play what you personally like rather than what the clients like. The restaurant owner said: “I think this research will definitely affect what we play in the future.”

Music, like language, changes through the centuries. But music is life. A Bach invention, a Brahms symphony, and a Beatles song are different forms in different genres, and at first they may sound as if they have nothing in common. But they all use the same musical “language” and follow basically the same rules. Past research published in The Journal of Music Therapy (The Effect of Background Music on Behavior in Alzheimer’s Patients, December 1st 2007) focused on improvement of healthy cognitive and social skills, or reduction of agitation symptoms, in Alzheimer’s Patients who were played stimulative background music during which time no other structured activity was taking place. The researchers observed twenty eight participants both with and without stimulative, familiar background music. Results showed both a significant increase in positive social behaviours and a significant decrease in negative behaviours when background music was played.

The brain works by looking at different pieces of information and deciding if they are different or the same. This is done in music of the baroque and classical periods by playing a theme and then repeating or changing the theme. The repetition is only done once. More than one repetition causes the music to become displeasing.

Today, individuals are being confronted by a situation where one is forced to listen to music whether by choice or without. Music is played in nearly all department stores and super markets. Even whilst walking in the streets, we find cars blaring with music. The sound of music brings into humans its magic power; that’s why children love to play with songs and rhymes even at an early age in life (babies, even inside their mother’s womb, show to appreciate music when exposed to it). When one thinks of music, the first thing that comes to mind is enjoyment.

HealthDay News recently announced a study exploring whether harmonic sounds are therapeutic for people who suffer from neurological disorders. That makes us wondering wether our brains are tuned to healing frequencies?

Work on Your Voice before You Learn How to Sing

There are many people who are blessed with a natural singing ability. Others require singing lessons. For a beginner to enhance their natural singing voice help is needed. Whether you are a natural talent or not all aspiring singers benefit with basic singing coaching. Establishing the basics at a beginner level ensures that bad habits are not acquired. It’s important to learn how to protect your voice and increase its potential. Before you learn how to sing live you need to be able to work on your own voice

Acquiring a knowledgeable teacher is the first step to ensuring the correct basic exercises are taught. Music schools and colleges provide lessons and teachers for beginner singers. Private tuition is an option for those not keen on attending group lessons. Once you have found a teacher you are comfortable with remember to develop a natural voice. Using your own natural singing voice and style is the best thing any beginner singer can do. By copying your favorite singer means you are hiding your natural sound - something that makes you different and unique.

You must learn to control your breathing. If you holding your breath while singing it never produces a natural sound or tone. Learn to let the air flow while singing is the aim. Learning diaphragmatic breathing is essential. This means you must breathe into the lower part of your lungs by breathing deeply. There are many breathing exercises you can learn to help you achieve this such as lying down and placing a hand on the upper chest and a hand on the lower chest under the ribcage. When you breathe in the hand on the upper chest should not move and the hand on the lower chest should go up and down.

Bat For Lashes Tour Kicks Off In The USA

“Let’s dance,” Bat for Lashes singer Natasha Khan told the crowd at the sold-out opening night of her US tour for ‘Two Suns.’ Indeed, the Anglo-Pakistani singer’s piano ballads took a back seat for much of the night, serving as chill-out breaks between the thundering beats of opener ‘Glass’ and nearly a dozen other songs at New York’s Webster Hall.

Old tracks like ‘The Wizard’ and ‘What’s A Girl to Do?’ were pumped up with the impressive skills of Khan’s new band members, bassist Charlotte Hatherley, drummer Sarah Jones and beat-maker Ben Christophers. If the beat was too loud, Khan simply turned the vocals up. When it became too much, she settled at the piano for acoustic numbers like ‘Good Love’ and the understated ‘Sad Eyes’ from her debut album ‘Fur and Gold.’

But the set started, ended and was dominated by the fast-paced, heavily-layered music the singer has lately been making. It seemed like the tragic ‘Moon and Moon’ would be her finale, but instead, it was a bouncy, grin-filled rendition of ‘Daniel’ that closed the night, displaying a confidence that Khan recognizes in herself. As she told Spinner in May, “Before I made this record, I listened back to the old one and I noticed how vastly my voice has changed and how much more confident I was; just naturally from touring and playing live so much, the vocal had much broader range.”

The elaborate set decoration was another indication of how far Bat for Lashes has come from the handclaps-and-tambourine days of yore. Khan names New York Costumes, just down the street from Webster Hall, a favorite destination, and last night’s wardrobe proved it. Waltzing out barefoot in a fur-fringed jumpsuit and daubs of sparkly blue face paint, Khan was surrounded by tchotchkes, Christmas tree lights and wolfish backdrops — a far cry from the jeans-and-tank-top aesthetic of her 2007 show at Joe’s Pub.

5 Songwriting Tips

1.Sharpen your Songwriting skills every day. Like an athlete who strives to practice so as to reach the peak of his/her performance, a songwriter or a composer should also practice regularly…OK. you are talented and everything, but your talent means nothing if your brain doesn’t get used to using this talent. Make a 30 min. music writing time per day and use it to experiment with chords, write themes or maybe rearrange something. But always keep in mind that you are just practicing, so there probably isn’t a “hit” coming out of these 30 min…Hits come like a flash so be always prepared!

2.Listen to music every day. The very famous Suzuki violin teaching method requires that the student listens to a tape containing the pieces he/she learns everyday to “develop musical ability”(Schinichi Suzuki). Guess what? It works. As you listen more you will unconsciously adapt more to music in general and, on the conscious level, discover tricks and techniques in music writing that you didn’t know about. Nobody can create music De Novo, it has got to have some roots!!

3.Don’t limit yourself to one style. My music education was classic, but I adore Rock and Metal (my favorite bands are Scorpions and Pink Floyd) as much as I adore Bach and Dvork and ,since I’m Egyptian, I also like my share of oriental music..!! Such a style mix can create the most wonderful ideas, and this is how most songwriters come up with new styles (ex: Pink Floyd’s Psychedelic Rock). Always explore and experiment with new styles, if you take a look at the history of any band, you find out that’s what songwriting is all about.

4.Learn the rules of the game. You probably think that since you can come up with a nice theme, that your are on the right track …WRONG ;). It is true that songwriting has no specific rules, but here you are looking for “Five Songwriting Tips”, eh?!!. A song is music + words…As much as you can, learn music theory and the basics of lyrics/poetry writing. Learning never stops and it’s a fact that as you learn more about the rules of the game, you become more skillful bending those rules..!!And never forget that writing catchy melodies and smart rhyming lyrics needs lots of practice.

5.Don’t be shy. Make everybody know about your songwriting skills. Show it to friends and family first, then to songwriting communities and finally, seek professional critiques. As you get your work more fine tuned, you will become more confident and, consequently, more open to new ideas and suggestions. Remember, it’s the people whom you are writing for, their thoughts do matter.

The Horror of Traditional Piano Lessons

Now that Halloween is over, it’s safe to talk about traditional piano lessons - the tedium, the boredom, the overbearing teachers with their incessant metronome beats.

Do we really need this? Do we really need yet another polished perfomer who can play Czerny and Beethoven on cue? Don’t we have enough of these skilled typists already? I think so. And frankly, I just don’t get it. I don’t get why anyone would want to learn how to play other people’s music.

Of course this music is worthy of preserving, but I’m speaking about being creative at the piano. I’m talking about the ability to sit down at the keyboard and just play without forethought or planning.

Is there value in this kind of approach to playing? Yes! And while improvisation and composition are taught, it’s not emphasized. It’s relegated to inferior status while the poor student spends time first learning how to read notes and then recreating what has already been done. What a shame.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We can lead with an emphasis on creativity first! To do this does not require more than a very rudimentary knowledge of chords, a way to play them, and a guided instruction on how to improvise. Imagine the joy students will feel when they realize how easy it is to create music!
